So what did I miss? It just felt like Coppola was mumbling to himself throughout the whole movie. He listed it as one of his favorite of his own films, and I assume that must be because he made it for no one else's pleasure or understanding. It's just incoherent. There's a line between ambiguous and vacuous and I think Youth Without Youth errs on the wrong side of that line. Your vague comments don't do a whole lot to illuminate what I missed in this film. Is it that the movie is supposed to be a metaphor or allegoyr for Coppola's whimsy? I really, truly, wouldn't mind it if you condescended to me and explained in plain language this film's strengths.

Loved it. Sometimes one's imagination is the character study, the plot definition; akin to reading between the lines. Thankfully, not everything is digitally enhanced these days, leaving the human brain one of the last cognizant bastions of subjectivity. Give this one another chance. Take the facts of an historical nature and the fiction of a genius author and open up; go in deep for the depth. Unfortunately, condescension is most of what's being served up to the cinema audiences these days. Fortunately, this film does not contribute to such conformation.

I know that it can't actually be a direct connection, but "Youth without Youth" was the last film that played at the single-screen Highpoint, St Louis's oldest continuously operated theaters, before it went under a few months ago. Makes you wonder...

My parents rented this, and I for some reason knew it was going to be bad. My dad got it because it had Coppola on the cover, and my mom decided it would be good because Coppola knows what he's doing.

I opted not to watch it, and though they both claimed it was a good movie, I've long since distrusted their choice of cinema.

Sounds like I was right. =3

Ha ha. I never checked the alt text before.

Sounds like this movie is a crapfest. Who would WANT screenwriting lessons from M. Night Shyamalan.
